FREQ is an artist-run gallery for sound, light and media art.

We like it when things leak out of their frames. You might arrive to look and find yourself listening instead, suddenly aware of your own body reshaping the work simply by being there. That is part of the program.

Located at Unioninkatu 28, within the concrete architecture of Aarno Ruusuvuori, the gallery offers a setting where art is not separate from its environment. Works can be quiet or physical, minimal or immersive. Visitors are free to stay observers or become part of the situation simply by moving, listening and spending time.

FREQ responds to a need: there are many artists working experimentally and across disciplines, but few platforms in Helsinki where this kind of practice can unfold with continuity. We support process, risk and collaboration, and we welcome pieces that change from visit to visit.

The gallery is curated and developed by Sarah Kivi, Sampo Aatos and Suvi Parrilla. Together they are responsible for the programme, artistic direction and production.

Alongside exhibitions, FREQ operates as an open platform for workshops, experimentation and dialogue between artists, audiences and professionals working with the built environment.

Each visit offers a different relationship between work, space and viewer.
Things shift. Attention matters.
